| Arrive at the pool no later than 8 a.m. Swimmers and parents check in at the entrance. Check in begins at 7:45 a.m. and closes at 9 a.m. Swimmers should write their event numbers on the backs of their hands. The meet is run in event order, from 1 to 79. Girls' events are odd numbered, and boys' events are even numbered. Relays will be posted at the check in table. The medley relay is the first event swum; the free relay is last. Please do not plan to leave the meet before the end if your child is swimming in a free relay. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The team will meet for warm up at 8 a.m. Swimmers should not jump or dive into the water during warm up. The pool will close at 8:45 a.m., and the team will meet for a pep talk. Each swimmer should let a coach know that he or she is present sometime during the warm up period. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After the pep talk, first half parent volunteers should report to their jobs and swimmers should prepare to swim. Apply sunscreen, drink water, and stay warm and dry! All medley relay swimmers should report to the clerk of the course. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| During the meet, swimmers should report to the clerk of the course one or two events ahead of time. Event numbers will be displayed near the "on deck" heat of swimmers, so swimmers should become familiar with the event numbers. At Fairbrae, we are able to seat 6 heats of swimmers at the clerk of the course staging area, and this helps both the swimmers' preparation, and it helps the meet to runn smoothly. The first half of the meet includes medley relays, butterfly, backstroke, and individual medleys. The older age groups swim first during the first half of the meet, alternating girls then boys of decreasing age to 6/under. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After the individual medleys, the meet stops for a short break. Parents are needed for the coach/parent relay teams. Interested parents should talk to Paul Cole about the parent relay. This is the time for volunteer workers to switch shifts. The meet order also shifts so that 6/unders swim first in the second half of the meet. The 6/under breast strokers should report to the clerk of the course during the break. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The second half of the meet includes breaststroke, freestyle, and freestyle relays. Freestyle is the most popular stroke and has many heats. The relays are generally very quick. Parent volunteers often prefer to work during the first half of the meet, but if your swimmers are swimming freestyle, your departure won't be delayed by volunteering during the second half of the meet. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Swim fast, and have fun. GO MANTA RAYS! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
