This week the pool was drained and RDL coordinated with Pool Pros regarding coping height (which impacts grading), anchor locations (for diving blocks, etc.) and piping. Door framing was added for locker room entryways.
This is the phase of the rehab when digging down can reveal unforeseen issues with foundations and structures. One example is extreme dry rot that was revealed in the locker-room foundation. Fortunately, it was just on the perimeter rather than across the expanse. If it were the latter, it would have been a costly, but necessary fix. As it turned out, the wood was added as a nail bed. It will be updated to concrete to avoid the dry rot issue in the future. (they now have tools/nails that can go directly into the concrete. Once we move above ground, these kinds of surprises become less common. We will be relieved when we are out of this “discovery” phase.
We are replacing the narrow trench trains around the pool deck (that quickly clog with leaves and hair) with wider drains that will improve drainage and be easier to clean. We will use trench drains to improve drainage in the locker rooms as well. We are value engineering landscaping from the original design. In the same way that the original lighting plan/design was beyond our budget and needs, we’re looking at landscaping options that fit our budget and scope. Our priority is irrigation infrastructure that can support a design as it grows, possibly in phases, to work within our budget. Alex and RDL also worked with the electrical subcontractor to plan out needs and panel updates so we can safely power all required areas of the club with lighting and outlets.
Reciprocal Swim Update: The pool we’d been working with had a power surge last weekend which shorted out some of their pool equipment. They had to shut down their pool as they wait for equipment and repairs. They hope to reopen around Halloween, and we hope that we can work out a system for guest swimmers around that time as well. We are in communication with them and will alert members as soon as we have an open pool and a workable plan.
